Christy's Quilt

For an Achievement Day activity we going to have a talent show. All the girls were invited to think of a talent that they would share. Some of the girls will be singing or dancing, some are making cookies and others want to display things that they have made. Christy and I decided that she would make a quilt. She choose the material and she did most of the work herself. I am so proud of her, she learned so much and she can't wait to display her quilt at the talent show.
Her she is learning how to iron. Poor girl is nine and I just barely taught her how. I don't particularly like ironing so it is a rare occurrence, thus not many opportunities have risen for me to teach her how.
Grandma Beasley let us borrow one of her sewing machines for the project. I took a couple different shots of Christy sewing and believe it or not this was the best. In the others she looks stoned. This was the part of her quilt that she required the most help with.
Christy wanted to add big colorful buttons to her quilt. There are five buttons. Here she is sewing one on.
Her she is learning how to quilt and tie. This part was extremely challenging. We didn't have any way of lifting the quilt of the floor and we had no access to quilting frames so Christy had to kneel on the floor and do her best.
And here is the finished Quilt. She did an amazing job!!! I am so proud of her.

Grandma Bushar sent Christy another small blanket in the mail that is all done except for the quilting and tying. If we get time she will finish that blanket and display it at the talent show as well.
